AltEarthmC
With Altearth's large structures it may be hard for your computer to play on the server at good frame rates. Lets change that.
Make sure you have the latest windows update, at least 30-40 gigs free on your drive, latest graphics drivers, little background processes, and the newest versions of Java. If you believe your operating system meets these conditions you may skip this section and continue to the optimizing minecraft sections.
For graphics drivers you need to figure out what graphics card you are using. Open a world on minecraft and hit f3
look for the following keywords in the right top corner under display: and click the one the matches. Download and open these links and follow their directions to install the latest graphics drivers. Don't restart the computer yet though!
To make sure there are little background processes open task manager, go to Start-up and disable any unnessary programs that are booting on startup.
Lets download the most recent java development kit that minecraft supports. click on the button below and select the x64 installer, download it, and run it. This download is only for windows.
You may now restart your computer to apply all the changes we made.
The most practical way to achieve the best performance possible is by utilizing a launcher called Multimc.
Multimc allows you to install modpacks and every minecraft version in fewer clicks compared to other launchers. This allows you to update your optimized instances once the newest minecraft versions roll around with ease compared to using the default microsoft launcher. I highly recommend making the switch to multimc as while the initial setup may be slightly longer compared to other methods, it saves you more time in the long run, but if you want to keep using the default launcher I have provided a guide for that in the next section so you may skip there.
First things first go ahead and download multimc with the link below.
MULTIMC DOWNLOADAfter it has fully downloaded, find the zip file in your downloads folder, unzip the file, open the file, and run MultiMc.exe
If all went well, the multimc installer should have launched. Select your language and then stop at the next page.
If you followed the directions in the previous section, you should have a Java version of 21 or higher which is required to play the latest versions of minecraft. Make sure to select the the latest version of java you have available. Select the version that includes the full path that starts wih C:/
We must also make sure that Minecraft can utilze all the memory your computer has for the best performance. Change the maximum memory allocation to half of the ram installed in your system. If you don't know how much ram you have just go to your search bar in windows and type "device specifications". Just look for "installed ram" in the menu. Since Multimc uses megabytes instead of gigabytes for ram usage we need to convert our gigabytes to megabytes. Use the following chart for common values but if you have a specific amount of ram you would like to allocate I have also provided a conversion website.
Gigabytes → Megabytes
2GB → 2048 MB
4GB → 4096 MB
8GB → 8192 MB
16GB → 16384 MB
Since I have 32 Gigabytes on my computer I inputted 16384 in the Maximum Memory Allocation. After you are finished make sure the minimum memory alloaction is still 512 and click finish.
Next we need to connect our minecraft account to multimc. To do this click on the profiles button in the top right of the launcher.
Click add Microsoft.
Follow the directions as multimc provides by opening up the link and inputing the code provided into the microsoft webpage.
Click accept.
Once you return to Multimc Your account should be listed. If adding the account results in a failure it can be for a variety of reasons. First make sure your account isn't underaged. Next try relaunching the launcher and trying the process again. If that is still failing try running multimc as administrator. If you are still unable to add your account apply for a ticket in the discord server or try looking up your issue online.
To add your optimized instances just click the instances button in the left top of the launcher.
Navigate the modrinth page and pick either fabously optimized or simply optimized. For most users I'd recommend downloading Fabously Optimized but for those on lower end hardware Simply Optimized may be the best option.
Once you have chosen your desired instance just click ok and launch the instance once it has finished downloading.
Thats it! You are ready to play!
There are two ways to optimize minecraft through the default launcher; Optifine and Fabulously Optimized. Fabulously Optimized being the superior option but the choice is yours!
The process for downloading Optfine is pretty simple. The download is listed below, just download, open, and install. Once you open your minecraft launcher it should be shown in the bottom left corner. We still have to edit the installation settings so locate the installation settings header below and follow the last steps.
Optifine DownloadFabulously Optimized is the best way to increase your frames and you may also taylor your experience by adding more mods. It used to be more difficult to install but as of recently a vanilla installer has become available. If you already have mods present in the mods folder move them out or put them inside another folder inside the mods folder. The download is listed below. Once you open the page just click "assets" and download the installer, open it, and select 1.19.2 or a newer version if its available. Once you open your minecraft launcher it should be shown in the bottom left corner. Please continue below to edit the installation settings. We are nearly done!
The last step to optimizing your minecraft is by editing the installation settings. Find the installations tab in your minecraft launcher. Hover over Fabulously Optimized or Optifine Launcher and click the three dots. Then click edit.
Click more options and click the browse option under "java executable"
A file browser should open up. Go to your C: drive and then go to progam files or program files(x86) and click on the Java file (it could be in either one). Once you find the java file just click on the jdk-17 file, click on bin, and scroll until you find the javaw.exe executable. Select it and click open.
Finally lets finish off with heading over to the Jvm arguments tab and changing the 2 in "-Xmx2G" to however much ram you feel comfortable with minecraft using. A good rule of thumb is to input half of the ram you have on your system as the other half is usually being utilized by your operating system. So if your pc has 8 gigabytes of ram input 4 for minecraft to use. If you don't know how much ram you have just go to your search bar in windows and type "device specifications". Just look for "installed ram" in the menu.
Click save and run the game. Your performance should be a lot better!
Chunk distances are currently set to 32 but even with these large render distances the true beauty of Altearthmc is not fully realized. To fix this I recommend installing Distant Horizons which will allow you to see far
beyond the render distance. This will decrease your fps so I only recommend this if you have an above average computer. If you went the Fabulously Optimized
route here is a simple guide on how to get Distant Horizons
working. The only Fabulously Optimized version that
this guide works for is Fabulously Optimized versions 5.10.2 and
5.12.0. All standard versions above 5.12 would require their Iris and
Sodium mods to be updated making this simple guide very complicated
so I won't be going over that. First download the Distant Horizons
mod corresponding to your Fabulously Optimized version.
Next, Open your Minecraft mods folder and downloads folder. Getting to your Minecraft folder will be different depending on what launcher you are using. For vanilla launchers, hit the windows key and type "run" in your search bar. Type "appdata" into the box and hit enter.
For Multimc users skip to the next title.
Next click Roaming, then .minecraft, then mods.
Skip past the section below to the final header
Open the launcher, click on the instance, and on the righthand side of the window, click view mods.
After that just click view folder.
Drag and drop the Distant Horizons mod from your downloads folder to the mods folder we just opened.
Once you have moved the Distant Horizons mod from your downloads to your mods folder relaunch your game and enjoy.
DISCLAIMER: Do not update your Distant Horizons to a newer version unless you want to update sodium, iris, and probably more mods alongside it. Click "Don't show again" when update is suggested by mod.
There are several reasons why this process is not working for you.
1. You are on Mac or Linux: The steps listed in this guide are only for windows users. This guide still might be useful for those on mac or linux though I just can't guarantee it to work or match your experience.
2. .Jar hijacked: If you can't open optifine or the fabulously optimized then make sure you have the correct java version installed and then download jarfix by clicking on the link below and selecting the "jarfix.exe" download link and running the executable.
4. You installed the wrong java version: If you get the message "Your Java Runtime is incompatible" when you try and run minecraft its likely you are using an older version of java. Go back to the step where we install java and make sure to install 22 and edit your installation settings to use it.
3. Some other issue: If you are still having issues please file a support ticket on our discord by clicking the discord button below.
